Principal’s Welcome

Norman Park State School is a co-educational school which caters for students from Prep to Year 6.

At Norman Park State School we take pride in being a school with a rich heritage, a strong community spirit and a positive future, towards supporting students to become 21st Century learners.

Norman Park State School opened on 9 July 1900 with 52 students, a Principal, and three teachers.  As the school's enrolment grew during the following decades, many timber buildings with verandas were added to the original brick structures which are now heritage listed.

In 2017 our enrolment is 456 students from Prep to Year 6.

Our pedagogical framework for planning, teaching and assessment is based on current educational research models that underpin pedagogical practices.

The three key focus areas of the framework are:

  1. John Fleming's Explicit Teaching
  2. Harvard University's Culture of Thinking
  3. School-wide Positive Behaviour Support for Learning Framework

The school provides a safe, tolerant and disciplined learning environment evidenced by the successful implementation of the Responsible Behaviour Management Plan (PDG, 384KB) and social skills program.

Our Student Leadership Program includes Peer Support, Student Council and Leadership Development; School, Cultural, Sports and Library Captains.

There is strong community support for Norman Park State School. The School Council, P&C Association and the school are supported by school council members, class parent coordinators who liaise with school community members and by year level parent representatives.

We strive to provide a balanced education and a broad range of relevant and engaging learning experiences, challenging our students to discover their unique potential and individual strengths; as per our school vision and motto.

  • Our Vision: 'To develop curious and compassionate young people who are capable of leading their own learning'
  • Our motto: 'Onwards and Upwards'
