Instrumental Music program

The IM program caters for students with the musical aptitude and keenness to participate in learning an instrument from either the string, woodwind, brass or  percussion families. There is an audition process to select students for the Instrumental Music Program. Those students selected are required to commit to the program for twelve months.

There is a levy for students involved in this program to cover the costs of repairs, replacements and musical texts.

Instrumental Music teachers visit the school on a regular basis to provide specialised percussion, brass and woodwind instruction. These teachers are funded by the Department of Education.

Instrumental Music students have the opportunity to perform as members of NPSS school bands/string ensembles at various public performances throughout the school year.

For more information refer to our Performance Music Handbook for 2023.

Choirs

Being part of a choir teaches musical skills at an extended level, aids in vocal development, social skills and teaches the value of achieving goals through performance. Our Norman Park State School choirs are "open to all", however, members are expected to participate for the entire year and consistently attend rehearsals and performances. This level of commitment is essential if our choirs are to perform at the high level for which the are renowned and be viewed as a polished team. It is also expected that choir members conduct themselves as exceptional representatives of our school at all times. Incentives are in place to encourage this behaviour.

Norman Park State School currently features two choirs:  Junior (Years 2-4) and Senior (Years 5 & 6).   The Junior Choir repertoire consists mostly of unison pieces, whereas the Senior Choir pieces feature unison and harmony vocals up to 3 parts.  Each choir rehearses weekly and performs at various school and community events, wearing the performance uniform.

Choir members, perform in the NPSS Music Performance Uniform. This consists of  a decaled white polo shirt (provided for all performances) long black pants, black socks and shoes. The music support group will be on hand to ensure your child has a fitted polo for each performance.

Musical

Every second year, our school produces a musical.  Students in Years four, five  and six are invited to audition each year for parts in the musical. Previous productions include Disney Jr's Finding Nemo, Jurassic Lark, All’s Well That Ends Swell, Aladdin, Cinderella & Rockerfella and Junglebook.
